             Acting Comptroller Williams Names Mike Brosnan
               OCC Deputy Comptroller for Risk Evaluation

WASHINGTON, D.C.     -- Acting Comptroller of the Currency Julie L.
Williams announced the appointment of Michael L. Brosnan to serve
as the OCC's deputy comptroller for risk evaluation.  Mr. Brosnan
will serve as the Comptroller's principal advisor on systemic
risks facing the national banking system and will chair the OCC's
National Risk Committee, which coordinates the agency's risk
identification practices.

"It is vital for the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency to
stay abreast of emerging risks that could pose a threat to the
safety and soundness of our national banking system," said Ms.
Williams.  "Mike will keep the OCC in the forefront of this
global effort by identifying new areas of risks and assisting in
the development of timely supervisory policies to address those
risks."

Mr. Brosnan will continue to oversee the OCC's Treasury and
Market Risk Division, which he has directed since 1995.  He
became acting deputy comptroller for risk evaluation in November
1997.

Mr. Brosnan, a 15-year OCC veteran, has served as a bank
examiner with the OCC's large bank supervision staff in Chicago and
with the field staff in Miami, where he specialized in examining
capital markets activities.  He holds a B.A. and M.B.A. from
Lynchburg College in Lynchburg, Virginia.
