Introduction and Objectives

In this lesson we will cover the epidemiology and public health interventions we will undertake, should a bioterror attack using plague occur. At the end of this lesson you should be able to:

  • List the principal purposes of epidemiological investigations.
  • Describe the case definitions for plague.
  • Describe sentinel events that could indicate a bio-terrorist attack using plague.
  • Describe the public health response necessary for natural plague.
  • Describe the public health response necessary for a bioterrorist attack using plague.
  • Discuss the management of contacts to plague cases.
  • Describe the prophylaxis of contacts to plague cases.
