DESCRIPTION: The District's Animal Shelter and animal control programs are managed by the Washington Humane Society, an independent organization. The shelter houses and cares for thousands of the city's homeless cats and dogs, rabbits, snakes, and other animals. The DC Animal Control Facility is administered by the Department of Health.
