PCU 3: Effective Communication

Description of Job Duty Competency to be Achieved

Maintain effective and efficient internal and external communication.


Description of Need

Must be able to clearly articulate policies, procedures and other information. In addition, must be able to create effective channels for feedback.


Specific Job Task Skills and Knowledge

1. Hold meetings, briefings, conferences, interviews that are well-organized, crisp, and results-oriented.

2. Write letters, memos, and reports that are clear, concise and complete.

3. Summarize, clarify, and organize information.

4. Make concise presentations and sell ideas in a persuasive, well-documented manner to management, staff, customers.

5. Coordinate and negotiate effectively.

6. Utilize effective listening skills.

7. Interact effectively with the media.


Instructional Components

Instructional Component 3.1: Complete either the Field Operations Management or Management and Supervision course provided by the NWSTC.

Instructional Component 3.2: Complete the skill-based presentation trainging course at the NWSTC (under development for FY-04).
