The purpose of this PDS is to identify training requirements to facilitate development of competency in the production of high quality fire weather products and services for the land management community. These requirements encompass all fire weather responsibilities at WFOs including core meteorologists, program leaders, focal points and Incident Meteorologists (IMETs). Fire weather forecasting competencies are critical due to the particularly high level of customer interactions required at the local level. Responsive and accurate fire weather forecasting can save lives and minimize the cost of fire management.

The Fire Weather topic is broken into two individual PDS's, namely Fire Weather and IMET . The IMET is expected to possess all fire weather competencies, plus the additional competencies specified in the second PDS.
