Disaster Assistance Climbs To More Than $5.2 Million

Lacey, Wash. -- In less than 10 days federal and state assistance to storm victims in the five counties designated for Individual Assistance (IA) by the disaster declaration of Dec. 8 now totals $5.2 million in approved funds. Counties designated for IA are Grays Harbor, Lewis, Mason, Pacific and Thurston. More than 4,000 individuals or small business owners in these counties have applied for assistance to date.

Residents and small business owners who suffered damage from the severe storms, flooding, landslides and mudslides in all five designated counties are encouraged to apply for assistance by calling the Federal Emergency Management Agency’s toll-free number, 1-800-621-FEMA (3362), from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. (local time) Monday through Sunday until further notice. Those with speech or hearing impairments may call TTY 1-800-462-7585.

Additionally, those affected by the disaster may apply for assistance by going online to www.fema.gov which is available around the clock.

With the declaration a wide range of programs became available to residents such as funding for temporary disaster housing assistance, replacement grants for serious disaster-related needs and expenses not covered by insurance or assistance programs.

FEMA coordinates the federal government's role in preparing for, preventing, mitigating the effects of, responding to, and recovering from all domestic disasters, whether natural or man-made, including acts of terror.
