Boise Signing Ceremony

Capitol was the scene of Boise's Project Impact signing ceremony
on July 29. Mayor Brent Coles welcomed Michael J. Armstrong, Associate
Director, FEMA, and 57 corporate, small business and government
partners along with a host of other guests to the historic Depot
to sign the City's comprehensive Project Impact memorandum of agreement.
Prior to the actual signing ceremony, the day's events began at St. Luke's Regional Medical Center where Ed Dahlberg, the City's Project Impact chairman and St. Luke's President, hosted a luncheon for corporate executives who have signed on as Project Impact partners.
A trolley bus then took the luncheon guests on a tour of three Project Impact mitigation projects. At Pierce Park School, Professor Jim Zollweg of Boise State University, highlighted the Boise schools' efforts to secure overhead lighting fixtures at several high risk schools; Chuck Mickelson, City Engineer then lead the group on a tour of a flume replacement project to alleviate flooding in a north end neighborhood; finally, Jeff Ramey of the Boise Fire Department, along with representatives from the Bureau of Land Management and United Water conducted a helicopter dip-tank demonstration project at one of the fifteen helo re-fill sites to be placed around the City as part of the wildfire prevention efforts under Project Impact.
These tours are just a sample of the many projects and planning initiatives now underway in Boise under Project Impact. In the months ahead, both the Boise River flood mitigation committee and the Regional Earthquake Safety Council under Project Impact will be moving forward with their own initiatives to make the Boise area a more disaster resistant community.
