Seattle, Wash. -- The Cascadia Region Earthquake Workgroup (CREW), a private/public partnership that promotes long-term strategies for reducing potential earthquake damage in the "Cascadia" region, will hold its annual conference Feb. 3-4 at the Bell Harbor International Conference Center in Seattle.

CREW's focus spans Northern California, Oregon, Washington and lower British Columbia. Speakers will describe damage potential in the region, how to effectively build coalitions in the public and private sector to reduce damage from earthquakes, and detail the Federal Emergency Management Agency's (FEMA) Project Impact: Building Disaster Resistant Communities initiative. According to CREW Executive Director Rob Johnson, the conference is designed for decision makers in the transportation, communications, academic, banking and utilities fields.

"This is also an important program for private and public sector emergency managers and contingency planners," said Johnson. "Recognized experts will tell how to forge effective partnerships and pool resources to not only reduce loss of life and property, but speed economic recovery in the wake of a disaster. This is not about more studies -- it's about taking action."
