County Road Sidewalk Inventory

Overview

The New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT) fosters the development of an efficient bicycle and pedestrian system that responds to the needs of its users.

Through the New Jersey Statewide Bicycle and Pedestrian Master Plan (pdf), NJDOT provides guidance on the most effective use of federal, state and local resources to implement bicycle and pedestrian initiatives.

Through an image-based feature inventory, NJDOT has collected data for 13,200 miles of 500, 600, 700 and 2-digit series county roads statewide. This is available as Geographic Information System (GIS) data. This inventory will enable the user to see if sidewalks, shoulders, bike paths, curb ramps, crosswalks, pedestrian signage and pedestrian-friendly signalized intersections are present along county routes. Additionally, county maps depicting sidewalks, bike paths and bike lanes can be accessed allowing the user to zoom in on a selected site.
