FERC Relicensing Settlement
Agreement Helps Fund Land
Purchase on the Connecticut
River.
At the recent LIHI Annual Meeting
at the Appalachian Mountain Club (AMC)
Highland Lodge, I came across a
Copy of AMC’s member magazine
AMCOUTDOORS. While reading
through the magazine, I came
across a small article entitled,
Saving Green. The article
describes how the Society for the
Protection of New Hampshire Forests
recently completed a $2.1 million
purchase of more than 6 miles
and 2,100 acres along the
Upper Connecticut River in New
Hampshire. Contributing to that
purchase was a $500,000 grant
from the Fifteen Mile River
Enhancement Fund. LIHI Governing
Board member Ken Kimball, AMC’s
Director of Research, had a role in creating
the fund through a settlement
agreement from the FERC relicensing
of the Fifteen Mile Falls hydroelectric
project.
