Letter to All Respirator Manufacturers

August 26, 2005

Subject: Revised Standard Application Procedures for the Certification of Respirators

At a public meeting held on July 21, 2005, NIOSH introduced the final version of the Standard Application Procedures for the Certification of Respirators, Revision 1, with an issue date of July 2005.

Effective July 14, 2005, NIOSH will require that each applicant who requests NIOSH certification comply with the requirements set forth in the July 2005 version of the SAP. To accommodate manufacturers who may have requests for approval underway, NIOSH will allow a six month grace period, until January 1, 2006, to identify all User’s Instructions on the relevant assembly matrix.

The Standard Application Procedures are available at http://www.cdc.gov/niosh/npptl/resources/certpgmspt/default.html and are downloadable for your use.

For questions or further explanation of this notice, please contact NPPTL at 412-386-4000.

Sincerely yours,
