Indoor Environmental Health Assessments of
Child Care Centers

Below are links to three documents that provide guidance to child care center operators and their environmental consultants.  This interim guidance is to be used in complying with the Department of Children and Families’ amendments to their Child Care Center Requirements.  Within a year, the New Jersey Department of Health and Senior Services (DHSS), in compliance with P.L. 2007.c.1., will be proposing new regulations pertaining to the evaluation and assessment of the interior or buildings that are to be used for child care centers and educational facilities. These regulations will detail procedures for the evaluation and assessment of the interior of these buildings.  Upon satisfying the requirements of those regulations, a certification that the building interior is safe for use as a child care center or for educational purposes will be issued by the DHSS.

Your first step will be to contact the DHSS, Indoor Environments Program at 609-631-6749 or email us to determine what, if any, sampling must be conducted.
