Degrees Awarded:  Master of Public Administration (MPA)
Admissions Deadlines: Applications are received on an on-going basis.
Admissions Cycle: A selection committee of the Department of Public Affairs will review and judge applications. Award winners will be announced before the beginning of the semester to which the student is applying.

Benefits

Wages from intern stipend, $10,000; 6 credit hours tuition remission per semester.

Description

MPA degrees are offered with the following emphasis areas: urban administration, nonprofit management, and health administration.

The UMKC Peace Corps Fellows Program is a two-year program. Fellows will work in community development organizations, nonprofits, local government, and economic development agencies while enrolled as a full-time student. During the fall and spring semesters, Fellows will work 20 hours per week, and during the summer 30 hours per week.

Students complete a 36-hour program with courses in leadership, politics, budgeting and research. Emphasis areas include practitioner forums in fundraising, board management and community economic development. Urban Administration spotlights housing, community development, public health and urban redevelopment.

University Application Requirements:

  • Official transcripts from all colleges/universities attended

  • An official General Record Exam (GRE) score



Fellows/USA Application Requirements:

  • Applicants must demonstrate a record of academic achievement, community involvement, and professional excellence

  • Completed Peace Corps Description of Service (DOS)

  • Personal statement and an essay regarding your involvement and interests in community development (see application, below).

  • Three letters of reference (see application, below).

  • Completed application form, see Department of Public Affairs
