HIV Testing and Guidance

Why Get An HIV Test?

    • Knowing you are positive may change behavior and decrease the chances of other people to be at risk by more than 30%. (CDC Recommendations and Reports Sep 22,2006, page 8)
    • 24%-27% of the people living with HIV in the United States are unaware of their infection. (CDC surveillance statistics)
    • American Indians / Alaska Natives have shortest time from AIDS diagnosis to death. Early treatment and monitoring will improve survival rates.
    • Pregnant women can substantially reduce transmission of HIV to the baby – to roughly a 2% chance with antiretrovirals.
