NCLB Committees
NCLB Advisory Council
The NCLB Advisory Council provides for a broad-based representation of federal education programs and allows the New Jersey Department of Education to obtain a field perspective regarding these programs by identifying local implementation opportunities, discussing challenges and key policy issues, and identifying possible strategies for solutions. It also provides members with the opportunity to share the information discussed at meetings with colleagues in their districts/schools or organizations to ensure a collaborative effort that effectively meets the needs of students, teachers, and parents benefiting from the programs. Meetings are held three times per year. Subcommittees are established as the need occurs. For example, the NCLB Reauthorization subcommittee has been meeting regularly since September of 2007 and will continue to meet as the NCLB reauthorization moves forward.
NCLB School Improvement Advisory Committee
The NCLB School Improvement Committee is a standing subcommittee of the Statewide NCLB Advisory Council. Formerly known as the NCLB Corrective Action Committee, the NCLB School Improvement Advisory Committee is a group of stakeholders consisting of representatives from the NJDOE, districts, schools and educational organizations to advise the state on accountability provisions for schools in corrective action, as well as schools in restructuring under the No Child Left Behind Act (NCLB) of 2001. The agenda usually includes a district/school improvement promising practices or research presentation, a state and federal NCLB update, DOE current events, CAPA update and a restructuring update. Meetings are held bimonthly throughout the year.
