Upcoming Conference Providing Guidance on Newly Enacted Amendments to the FOIA

On January 16, 2008, the Office of Information and Privacy (OIP), Department of Justice, will host a conference on the newly enacted amendments to the Freedom of Information Act.  Entitled the "Openness Promotes Effectiveness in our National Government Act of 2007," the bill was signed into law by the President on Monday, December 31, 2007.  See, http://www.whitehouse.gov/news/releases/2007/12/print/20071231-4.html

When: January 16, 2008
Where: Department of Commerce's Auditorium 14th and Constitution Avenue NW (main entrance is on 14th Street)
Time: 10:00 - 12:00 noon
Who should attend: Chief FOIA Officers, Agency Principal FOIA Contacts and Agency FOIA Public Liaisons

Please note that written guidance on these FOIA amendments will be posted soon on FOIA Post. In the meantime, agencies are encouraged to contact OIP, through its FOIA Counselor service, with any questions they have on implementation of these new statutory provisions.  (posted 1/07/2008)
