WASHINGTON, Feb. 3, 2006 – A soldier was killed in Iraq yesterday, and military officials have announced the name of a Marine killed earlier this week.
A Multinational Division Baghdad soldier died after a roadside bomb struck the vehicle he was riding in north of Baghdad, officials reported today. The soldier's name is being withheld until next of kin are notified. The Defense Department announced that Marine Pfc. Sean T. Cardelli, 20, of Downers Grove, Ill., died Feb. 1 from enemy small-arms fire while conducting combat operations near Fallujah, Iraq. He was assigned to 3rd Battalion, 5th Marine Regiment, 1st Marine Division, 1st Marine Expeditionary Force, Camp Pendleton, Calif.
