WASHINGTON, Nov. 7, 2005 – Four Task Force Baghdad soldiers were killed today when a suicide car bomber attacked their checkpoint along a road south of Baghdad, military officials reported.
The soldiers' names are being withheld pending notification of next of kin. In other news from Iraq, five U.S. soldiers from the 75th Ranger Regiment were charged Nov. 5 with violations of the Uniform Code of Military Justice related to allegations of detainee abuse. Officials said the allegations stem from a Sept. 7 incident in which the soldiers allegedly punched and kicked three detainees as they were awaiting movement to a detention facility. Upon discovering the alleged abuse, officials immediately launched an investigation, which ultimately led to the charges being preferred, according to a written Multinational Force Iraq statement issued today. "All allegations of abuse are taken very seriously and investigated thoroughly, and appropriate action is taken based on the findings of the investigation," the statement said.
