11th Annual science and math competition coming to Sacramento

FOLSOM, Calif.—High School students from Northern California will match wits in the Sacramento Regional Science Bowl competition Saturday at El Camino High School, 430 El Camino Ave., Sacramento.

Seventeen teams from 11 schools will vie for top honors in the 11th annual double elimination competition as they answer questions in astronomy, biology, chemistry, earth science, mathematics and physics. The winning team earns an all-expense paid trip to the Department of Energy's National Science Bowl, May 1-6 in Washington, D.C. A team from Tokay High School, Lodi, was the regional winner last year and a team from Mira Loma High School, Sacramento, was runner-up.

"The regional bowl brings together the best and brightest math and science students from across Northern California for a day of fun-filled competition," explained Science Bowl coordinator Bob Parkins.

Major sponsors of this year's event include Western Area Power Administration, Sacramento Municipal Utility District, City of Roseville Electric Department and Lassen Municipal Utility District.
