The correspondence of Charles Sumner, lawyer and United States Senator from Massachusetts, was received in the Library of Congress between 1900 and 1994 as transfers and purchases from various sources and as gifts of Alexander William Armour, Elisabeth B. Bliss, Ida Husted Harper, and others.

Processing History:

The correspondence of Charles Sumner were arranged and described in 1971 and 1985. The collection was revised in 1995. The finding aid was revised in 2008.
