NOTE: The fees for senior citizens 65 and older and handicapped citizens are $7 less than those stated in all PASSENGER vehicle categories if you own or lease the vehicle. This reduction does NOT apply to boat registrations.

**A commuter van is defined as a motor vehicle with a seating capacity of at least eight passengers that transports them on a daily commute to and from work. It may also be operated for personal use.

*The weight class of the vehicle is determined by information contained in the manufacturer's statement of origin (If not defined here, the following resources will be used):

• The application for renewal of registration
• The Branham Reference Book
• MVC's weight class manual

If the manufacturer's shipping weight is disputable or unavailable, the applicant may be required to have the car weighed on a certified scale under Title 39:3-8. This weight will be considered the manufacturer's shipping weight.

Motor home or station wagon
The fee is based upon the vehicle's passenger weight class and model year.


Non-commercial trucks
The fee is based on the vehicle's gross weight.

Registration transfer fee
$4.50, plus any prorated increase in the registration fee due to a change in weight class

Transfer of the title is $20 (or $40 with a lien)


Fees for duplicate or a replacement of original registration documentation

• $5 for one-year passenger or commercial registrations
• $5 for the last year of a Four-Year Accelerated Registration

Or

• $11 anytime during the first three years of a four-year accelerated registration term

All passenger vehicles, motorcycles or non-commercial trucks registered to recipients of the following programs are exempt from the increased fees. This is due to the Insurance Reform Act (now the Transportation Trust Fund):

• Pharmaceutical Assistance to the Aged and Disabled (PAAD)
• Supplemental Security Income (SSI)
• Lifeline
• To claim the exemption, present a copy of the current PAAD card, SSI card or proof of Lifeline eligibility. The card must be in the name of the owner of the vehicle
