Equivalents for Vaccines Used with the Jet Injection Apparatus
Defense Supply Center - Philadelphia (DSCP) had stocked three military unique products while they were available:Yellow Fever Vaccine Meningococcal Vaccine, and Tetanus and Diphtheria Toxoids, AdsorbedHowever, DSCP is no longer able to obtain favorable depot prices for the commercial equivalents. In addition, 50 dose Influenza Vaccine was discontinued before the 98/99 season.Yellow Fever VaccineThe military unique 20 dose package (6505-00-162-1520) has been available from DSCP depot at a delivered price of $9.25 per dose. They currently have less than one month's supply on hand. (1395 units)Pasteur Merieux Connaught, the only licensed supplier, discontinued the 20 dose vial in mid-1999 because the vial was originally designed for use with the Jet Injection Apparatus. The Jet Injector is no longer being used. In addition, since all 20 doses had to be used within 8 hours after reconstitution, the firm felt that there appeared to be considerable wastage of product if not used within the allowable timeframe. The commercial 5-dose multi-dose vial package (NDC 49281-915-05-NSN 6505-01-203-6289)is available from the Federal Supply Schedule (FSS) at approximately $21 per dose. A commercial package of 5 single doses (NDC 49281-915-01- NSN 6505-01-171-5260) has limited commercial availability from FSS at approximately $28 per dose.Neither commercial product can be shipped directly from the Prime Vendor due to certain licensing requirements of the Federal Government for receipt and use of this vaccine. Vaccine for the civilian population is only distributed by Connaught to designated vaccination centers and licensed providers. DSCP has contacted Connaught in an attempt to enable the product to be drop shipped from the Prime Vendor, but at this time, it is not possible. DSCP will be working with the firm to solve the logistical problems they have in controlling the distribution of this product through the Prime Vender system.Meningococcal VaccineThe military unique 50 dose package size (6505-01-131-2436) had been available from DSCP depot at a delivered price of $9.21 per dose. No depot stock remains.Pasteur Merieux Connaught, the only licensed supplier, discontinued the product due to the prohibition on the use of the Jet Injection Apparatus. The commercial 10 dose vial (6505-01-461-1546- NDC 49281-489-91)is available from the PV and FSS at approximately $17.50 per dose. The commercial single dose vial(NSN 6505-01-425-7573- NDC 49281-489-01) is also available from the PV and FSS at approximately $33 per dose.Tetanus and Diphtheria Toxoids, AdsorbedThe military unique 30 ml size (6505-00-864-5249) has similarly been discontinued. The delivered depot price was $125.80 per vial.Commercial 5 ml vials (6505-00-299-8296)are available from the Prime Vendors from Connaught (NDC 49281-0271-83), Lederle(NDC 0005-1875-31) and Medeva (NDC 0008-0341-02)at approximately $20 per vial. For Further InformationPOC at Defense Supply Center - Philadelphia is:Thomas C.
