Air Strike Near Fallujah Targets Foreign Terrorists

Based on multiple sources of intelligence, the attack targeted and destroyed a position occupied by numerous foreign terrorists, as well as a weapons cache, the release said. Casualty information was not available, and the release said no collateral damage was reported.

"This action was taken in full coordination with representatives of the Iraqi Ministry of Defense and the Office of the Prime Minister, and was designed to continue eroding support for foreign terrorists and destroying their ability to carry out terror attacks against security forces and the people of Iraq," the release stated.

In other news from Iraq, the press center reported that a 13th Corps Support Command soldier is dead as the result of a rollover vehicle accident near Fallujah at about 2 a.m. today.

Soldiers from the 1st Infantry Division's 2nd Battalion, 108th Infantry Regiment, captured four suspects after a mortar attack against a coalition base near Balad this morning, another news release reported. Using AH-64S attack helicopters, the soldiers were able to stop a pickup truck that was fleeing from the location where the attack originated. The soldiers took the suspects to a coalition base near Balad for questioning and residue testing. One soldier was wounded in the mortar attack. He was in stable condition, the release said.

Also, a Task Force Danger soldier was wounded when a patrol was attacked by an improvised explosive device Aug. 23 near Baqubah. Soldiers apprehended two suspects. The wounded soldier was treated and returned to duty, the press center reported.

Task Force Danger soldiers apprehended two anti-Iraqi force suspects at a traffic-control point Aug. 23 near Balad Ruz, another news release reported. The soldiers confiscated two loaded AK-47 assault rifles, one hand grenade and $600 in U.S. currency. The individuals had no weapons permits, and they were taken to a Multinational Force Iraq facility for questioning, the release said.
