American Forces Press Service

FORT BELVOIR, Va., May 15, 1997 – Acquisition professionals will have a chance to share information at the 1997 Acquisition Research Symposium, June 25-27, in Rockville, Md.

The Defense Systems Management College, here, and the Washington Chapter of the National Contract Management Association are sponsoring the event at the Doubletree Hotel.

The theme of the symposium is "Acquisition Reform: Sustaining the Momentum -- Full Speed Ahead." The event is open to DoD employees, acquisition professionals in other federal agencies and industry representatives. The cost is $215 before May 31 and $265 after.

Norm Augustine, chairman of Lockheed-Martin Corp., will be the keynote speaker. All service acquisition executives will participate in a panel discussion of what lies ahead. Steven J. Kelman of the Office of Federal Procurement Policy at the Office of Management and the Budget will cover governmentwide acquisition reform initiatives.

"The symposium gives people a chance to share ideas across government and private industry," said Beryl Harman, professor of systems acquisition management at the college. In addition, panel discussions will focus on what effect the Quadrennial Defense Review will have on acquisition.

Authors will also present 28 papers relating to acquisition reform or acquisition management.
