DoD Opens PTAC on Guam

December 19, 2008 – The Department of Defense (DoD) has opened a Procurement Technical Assistance Center (PTAC) on Guam.  In fact, as announced by the Joint Guam Program Office (JGPO) this month, DoD has opened three new centers on Guam to help small businesses navigate the bureaucracy of the Department of Defense when attempting to obtain contracts during the anticipated military buildup.

The Defense Logistics Agency, on behalf of the Secretary of Defense, administers the DoD Procurement Technical Assistance Program (PTAP). These centers are a local resource available at no or nominal cost that can provide assistance to business firms in marketing products and services to the Federal, state and local governments.

“We are thrilled that Guam has been granted a PTAC. This recognizes the importance of the Guam small business community in support of the military buildup,” said JGPO executive director, retired Major General David Bice. “We encourage all businesses in Guam to make use of the PTAC in learning how to participate in the government contracting process.”

The PTAC centers are located at the University of Guam (School of Business and Public Administration), the Guam Economic Development Authority and the Upper Tumon branch of the Bank of Guam.  Aside from Puerto Rico, Guam is the first U.S. Territory to have a PTAC center.
