Williston, VT -- Federal disaster funds have been made available for Lamoille County to help local government rebuild public property damaged as a result of the June 5 through 13 flooding, the head of the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) announced today.
FEMA Director Joe M. Allbaugh said the assistance was approved following a review of damage data gathered by federal and state disaster recovery officials.
Allbaugh said, "Adding Lamoille County to the President's disaster declaration will help the community recover from the flooding by enabling towns and certain non-profit organizations to access federal rebuilding funds."
Procedures for requesting assistance will be explained at a briefing to be conducted by state and federal disaster officials. The briefing will be held Thursday, Aug. 1, at 9:30 a.m. in the TEGU Building, Lamoille County RPC, at 43 Portland St. in Morrisville.
Lamoille County is eligible to apply for federal funds to pay 75 percent of the approved cost for debris removal, emergency services related to the disaster, and repairing or replacing damaged public facilities, such as roads, buildings and utilities.
The funds were authorized under the major disaster declaration issued by President Bush on July 12 and made available through FEMA's Public Assistance program for state and local governments. Lamoille is one of five Vermont counties eligible for Public Assistance. The others are Caledonia, Essex, Franklin, and Orleans.
