SPRINGFIELD, Va., March 10, 1999 Every youngster who enters the Armed Services YMCA Young Readers Project essay contest wins a prize this year.
ASYMCA officials said every entrant will receive an age- appropriate audiobook, courtesy of the Audio Publishers Association. The U.S. Naval Institute also provides $1,000 U.S. Savings Bonds to two winning high school entrants, smaller bonds to 18 winners in younger age groups and books to 100 honorable mentions. The contest usually attracts about 4,000 essays. This year's theme is the importance of reading. April 2 is the contest deadline.
