WESTERN RECOGNIZES HIGHLANDS RANCH RESIDENT FOR EXCEPTIONAL SERVICE

LAKEWOOD, Colo.—Highlands Ranch resident Steve Reed will receive Western Area Power Administration's highest honor at a ceremony July 18 at Western's Corporate Services Office, in Lakewood, Colo. Western's Administrator Tim Meeks will present Reed with Western's Exceptional Service Award during the ceremony.

"We recognize Steve'scommitment, leadership, technical ability and devotion to duty," Meeks said. "Having top performers like Steveis the key to Western's success."

As a procurement analyst, Reed is primarily responsible for Western’s electronic procurement systems’ policies, procedures and guidance. He also conducts cost and price analyses for contracts, both before and after they’ve been awarded.

Reed implemented electronic commerce, which made Western one of the first two DOE organizations authorized to increase the simplified acquisition threshold to $100,000. He also helped Western transition to reporting procurements through the governmentwide system, called Federal Procurement Data System—Next Generation. After the transition, he helped customize the system so that Western’s small business specialists could collect and analyze data for their offices, as well as Westernwide.

"He's made significant contributions, serving as Western's procurement champion who provides technical direction, training and maintenance for the many e-Gov procurement and enterprise systems that have been integrated into Western's daily business," said Western’s Procurement Manager Deb Bean.

Currently, Reed serves on DOE’s Strategic Integrated Procurement Enterprise System, or STRIPES, initiative team. He is helping the team find, purchase and deploy off-the-shelf procurement software solutions that work DOE-wide.

Originally from Port Hueneme, Calif., Reed and his wife Wendie have a son John, 27. The couple now lives in Highlands Ranch. A graduate of the University of Phoenix in 1993, he enjoys stargazing/astronomy, photography, travel and family activities.
