Western recognizes Auburn resident for exceptional service

LAKEWOOD , Colo. —Auburn resident Steve Tuggle will receive Western Area Power Administration's highest honor at a ceremony May 31 at Western's Sierra Nevada Regional Office, in Folsom. Western's Administrator Mike Hacskaylo will present Tuggle with Western's Exceptional Service Award during the ceremony.

"I congratulate Steve Tuggle for making outstanding contributions to Western. Steve exemplifies the values outlined in our People Goal by serving his customers and peers with great dedication. His multiple accomplishments remind us of the wide reach our organization has in our industry, our service territory and our nation," Hacskaylo said.

A Sierra Nevada Region environmental protection specialist, Steve Tuggle receives Western's highest honor for continuing to help Western build coalitions with environmental organizations, state and Federal agencies and customers.

Among his accomplishments, Tuggle developed and implemented the Sacramento Valley and North Area environmental assessments that significantly enhanced the Sierra Nevada Region's right-of-way maintenance program and the region's ability to perform timely transmission line maintenance. These assessments reduced the number of environmental actions required to support maintenance work and will reduce on-going mitigation costs by more than $1 million.

He also initiated a cradle-to-grave integrated vegetation management program for SN rights of way, access roads, communication facilities and substations.

Tuggle is committed to using technology like the Geographic Information System effectively. He led project development and implementation of SN's GIS program and demonstrated how it could be used as an integral maintenance tool.

Tuggle and his wife Michele live in Auburn , with their two children, 5-year-old Justin and 5-month-old Alyssa. In his spare time, Tuggle enjoys running, backpacking, golfing and tending trees.
