On May 23, 2008, New Jersey American Water Company along with the BPU filed a petition seeking authorization to implement a Distribution System Improvement Charge mechanism to allow for quarterly adjustments to customer rates to recover the cost of certain specified capital expenses. The amount of the surcharge will grow between rate cases and is capped at 7.5% of the customer bill.
A public hearing will be held where members of the public are encouraged to attend and voice any concerns or issues they may have regarding the proposed rate increase.
Customers may file written comments regardless of whether or not they attend the public hearing with the Hon. Kristi Izzo, Secretary, Board of Public Utilities, Two Gateway Center, 8th Floor, Newark, New Jersey 07102; or the New Jersey Division of Rate Counsel, 31 Clinton Street, 11th Floor, P.O.
