BILLINGS SKYVIEW HIGH SCHOOL WINS 10TH ANNUAL BIG SKY REGIONAL SCIENCE BOWL COMPETITION


BILLINGS, Mont.—Billings Skyview High School Science Bowl team will represent Montana at the National Science Bowl in Washington, D.C., May 3-6, 2002. The five-member team won Montana's 10th annual regional science bowl competition on Feb 9.

Billings Skyview's team includes Kristin Jurist, Jason Kephart, Tanner Bennion, Ben Robbins and Mary Riegel.  Along with their coach Rich McFate, these bright students will be the first ever to represent their school at the National Science Bowl competition.

Teams competing in this year’s Big Sky Regional Science Bowl came from Montana schools ranging from Class C to AA. Western Area Power Administration, with contributions from PP&L Montana and other businesses throughout the state, hosted the competition. For the 10th year, the state’s best and brightest math and science students gathered to compete in the quiz bowl competition.  Students answered questions about general science, chemistry, earth science, biology, physics, mathematics, astronomy and computer science.

Great Falls High School took second place in the competition and Plentywood High School took third place.

Major benefactors of this year’s science bowl include Western Area Power Administration, PP&L Montana, CRM Inc., Billings Federal Credit Union, SSR Engineers Inc., American Title and Escrow, Upper Missouri G&T, Holy Rosary Healthcare, HKM Engineering, Sheridan College, Yellowstone Valley Electric Cooperative and Costco.
