WASHINGTON, Jan. 15, 2004 – Task Force All-American soldiers nabbed two more senior anti-coalition leaders during combat operations in western Iraq, according to a Combined Joint Task Force 7 news release.
The release noted that Brig. Gen. Kalil Ibraham Fayal al-Dulaymi and Gen. Mamoud Khudair Younes were captured by 82nd Airborne Division troops today and Jan. 14, respectively. The operations also included the detention of 41 other suspected insurgents, and followed the Jan. 11 seizure of Khamis Sirhan al-Muhammad, former Baathist Party regional leader in Anbar province, which includes Fallujah, Khalidiyah and Ramadi, under the deposed Saddam Hussein regime. Al-Dulaymi, the release stated, was the leader of anti-coalition activity operating in sections of Baghdad and in Anbar province. He is linked to a November rocket attack on a coalition installation in Fallujah. The release noted that Younes, a former Iraqi military intelligence officer in the province, is believed to have received messages and money from Saddam before the former dictator's Dec. 13 capture. Younes, the release continued, also is linked to the Jan. 8 downing of a U.S. Army UH-60 Black Hawk helicopter. CJTF 7 also reported that 82nd Airborne Division soldiers and special operations forces had captured al-Muhammad Jan. 11 during a coordinated mission in Fallujah. He was No. 54 on Iraq's 55 list of most-wanted former regime fugitives. Al-Muhammad is believed to have been responsible for coordinating, facilitating and financing myriad anti-coalition attacks and to have been involved in acts of sabotage on power, oil, fuel and railroad infrastructure. The task force reported he has been very cooperative since his capture and is providing valuable information to coalition officials, including names and locations of key insurgents associated with anti-coalition foreign fighter cells. During the past 24 hours, Task Force All-American troops conducted 203 patrols, including 10 joint patrols with Iraqi security forces. They cleared 10 ammunition caches and conducted eight offensive operations. CJTF 7 officials also reported that 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault) troops captured seven suspected insurgents Jan. 15 in raids south of Mosul.
