NIH Deltagen/Lexicon Knockout Mouse Resource

Center for Rodent Genetics

Knockout Gene and Mouse On October 05, 2005, the NIH announced contracts with Deltagen, Inc. and Lexicon Genetics, Inc., that will provide the NIH with access to 251 knockout mouse lines and phenotypic data about each line. The NIH will make these mouse lines and data as widely available to the research community as possible. The mouse lines will be divided among the NIH-sponsored repositories of the Mouse Regional Resource Center(http://www.mmrrc.org/) Exit NIEHS and The Jackson Laboratory(http://jaxmice.jax.org/info/index.html) Exit NIEHS and will be distributed to researchers from there.

The NIEHS contributed $400K to this project and was guaranteed that 10 mouse lines of choice (http://www.niehs.nih.gov/research/resources/collab/crg/docs/niehsmouselines.pdf)  Download Adobe Reader (45KB) would be included in the 251 lines. Additionally, because of the top choices submitted by other institute centers, many of the NIEHS's other choice lines were included in the 251 total.

More information on the knockout mice and data can be found on the Trans-NIH Mouse Initiatives Exit NIEHS Web site. In addition, there is a separate page on Frequently Asked Questions for NIEHS researchers interested in purchasing knockout mice.
