News and Announcements
Through the 20-year agreement, Southwestern Electric Power Co. (SWEPCO) will purchase all of the output, including renewable energy credits, of the 79.5-megawatt Majestic Wind Farm located northeast of Amarillo in Carson County, Texas. The project, consisting of 53 General Electric 1.5-megawatt SLE wind turbines and associated equipment, is more than 95 percent complete and expected to be online by the end of this month.
American Electric Power is evaluating the feasibility of building a multi-state, extra-high voltage transmission project across the Upper Midwest to support the development of renewable energy. AEP proposes building the first 765-kilovolt (kV) extra-high voltage transmission lines to connect major wind developments in the Dakotas and surrounding states to the existing 765-kV network that ends near Chicago.
