Training & Technical Assistance Enroll now for the National Victim Assistance Academy (NVAA). The next NVAA will be held March 1–6, 2009, at the American Airlines Training and Conference Center in the Dallas/Fort Worth, Texas area. Continuing Education Units will be awarded to all participants who complete the Foundation-Level Training, Professional Skill-Building Institute, or Leadership Institute and pre-Academy assignments. Sign up for the mailing list to receive more information. Register now for the Fifth National Sexual Assault Response Team Training Conference on May 27–29, 2009, in Seattle, Washington. This OVC-funded event will feature 57 workshops, 5 keynote speakers, and an interactive improvisational closing performance. Scholarships are available! Announcements Sign up now for the National Crime Victims Rights Week (NCVRW) 2009 Resource Guide for tips and materials you need to host an NCVRW event in your community. The upcoming NCVRW will be held April 26–May 2, 2009. Deadline Extended! The National Crime Victim Law Institute, through a cooperative agreement with OVC, is soliciting proposals from nonprofit organizations and institutions of higher education to establish pro bono crime victim legal clinics that will provide direct legal services to crime victims in criminal courts. Letter of inquiry is now due January 12. Important Notice: Grants.gov is experiencing technical difficulties. FY 2009 National Field-Generated Training, Technical Assistance, and Demonstration Projects—Cooperative agreements of $50,000–$500,000 will be awarded to develop or enhance training, technical assistance, and promising practices, models, and programs that improve the ability of victim service and other ancillary providers to provide services and support for crime victims. Apply by February 24, 2009. Enhancing Public Awareness and Outreach for Victims in Underserved Communities—Five grants of up to $75,000 each will be awarded to develop public awareness campaigns to educate crime victims in underserved populations about the resources and services available to them. Apply by January 22, 2009. Helping Outreach Programs to Expand (HOPE) II—A cooperative agreement between the Office for Victims of Crime (OVC) and Maryland Crime Victims’ Resource Center, Inc. (MCVRC) will help faith- and community-based organizations establish or expand victim services in high-crime urban areas with subawards of up to $50,000 through MCVRC. Apply by January 21, 2009. National Scope Action Partnership Project—Up to five cooperative agreements of $100,000 will be awarded to develop and conduct a national scope project to promote awareness and advocacy for the rights and needs of crime victims. Apply by January 21, 2009. Intensive Case Management for Family Members of Homicide Victims in Rural Areas—One cooperative agreement of up to $200,000 will be awarded to a private nonprofit organization or public agency to identify, institutionalize, and replicate promising practices related to the provision of a comprehensive array of services to family members of homicide victims in rural areas.
