For the first time, American Buffalo Gold Coins are available in both proof and uncirculated versions in four sizes - one ounce, one-half ounce, one-quarter ounce, and one-tenth ounce, as well as a four-coin set which contains one coin in each size. These are collector versions of the official United States Mint American Buffalo One Ounce Gold Bullion Coin.

The designs are based on the original 1913, Type I Buffalo nickel, as designed by James Earle Fraser. The obverse features a profile of a Native American. The reverse features an American Buffalo (also known as a bison). The 2008 American Buffalo Gold ncirculated Coins are presented in an elegant hardwood box, on a fixed platform, with a matte finish and a faux leather inset. Each set is accompanied by a custom-designed certificate of authenticity signed by the Director of the United States Mint.

To ensure that all members of the public have fair and equal access to United States Mint products, any order placed prior to the official on-sale date and time (July 22, 2008, 12:00 Noon ET) shall not be deemed accepted by the United States Mint and will not be honored.
