Assistant Secretary for Aging Joins South Carolina Governor in Call to Action Leadership Summit
HHS Assistant Secretary for Aging Josefina G. Carbonell joined South Carolina Lieutenant Governor André Bauer at the 2007 "Call to Action" Leadership Summit in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina on Friday, April 27, 2007. The day-long summit provided an opportunity for stakeholder organizations involved in providing senior services in South Carolina to hear directly from policymakers about recent changes in federal and state legislation on health and long term care. The Summit kicked off with a live Retirement Living Network TV show hosted by John Palmer, former NBC White House Correspondent. The South Carolina Call to Action Leadership Summit was a follow up to the U.S. Administration on Aging's Choices for Independence National Leadership Summit held in December 2006.

Older Americans: Making Choices for
a Healthier Future
On behalf of the U.S. Administration on Aging, I join President Bush in recognizing May 2007 as Older Americans Month. The theme for this year's Older Americans Month celebration is Older Americans: Making Choices for a Healthier Future. This theme reflects our nation’s ongoing efforts to think differently about health and long -term care by providing older persons and their families with the choices they want and the tools they need to live longer, healthier and better quality lives. The theme encourages us work together to modernize our current systems to adequately plan for and address the health and long term care needs of future generations. This modernization effort is reflective of the success of our nation’s national aging services network which, for more than 40 years, has tirelessly worked to meet the preferred needs of older Americans by providing innovative, cost-effective choices for accessible, streamlined home and community-based services and support.
