Erik Hatcher, a programmer in the Applied Research in Patacriticism group at the University of Virginia, discusses his work with Blacklight, a Solr-based faceted browser of the University of Virginia, and Collex, the big sister of Blacklight, that marries folksonomy and digital scholarship.
Speaker Biography: Erik Hatcher is a programmer for the University of Virginia in the Applied Research in Patacriticism group. He currently works on developing the SOLR search engine, Collex (a set of tools for COLLecting and EXhibiting information in the humanities), and Blacklight, UVA's browser-based search system based on the core technologies of SOLR, Lucene, Flare and Ruby on Rails. He has written articles for Webreview.com, IBM Developerworks, and Java Pro, and is a frequent speaker at computer technology conferences (Java One, Apachecon, OScon, and EurOScon). Erik lives in Charlottesville, Virginia, with his wife and three sons: Jakob, Ethan and Blake.
