In an award ceremony June 3, Energy Secretary Federico Peña recognized Western Area Power Administration as the Department of Energy's Power Marketing Administration of the Year.

Western is being singled out for its support to DOE's Small and Disadvantaged Business Program. This is the second consecutive year Western received this award. More than $54 million went to small businesses throughout Western's 15-state service territory.

Western is headquartered in Golden, Colo. and annually markets and transmits more than 10,000 megawatts of power from Bureau of Reclamation and U.S. Army Corps of Engineers hydroelectric powerplants in central and western states. Western sells about 40 percent of regional hydroelectric generation.
