GOLDEN, CO--Secretary of Energy Federico Peña today announced the selection of Michael S. Hacskaylo as Western's Administrator. Hacskaylo, who has been acting in the position since September 1997, succeeds J. M. Shafer who retired.

There he provided legal advice on land and water issues to the Bureau of Reclamation. He has been with Western since 1981 as an attorney. Hacskaylo was appointed Deputy General Counsel in April 1985 before becoming General Counsel and now Western's Administrator.
