SACRAMENTO
REGIONAL SCIENCE COMPETITION
CALIF. – On Saturday, Feb. 28, 19
high school teams from 11 regional schools will compete in the annual regional
competition of the Department of Energy’s National Science Bowl at Rio Americano High School, 4540 American River Drive, Sacramento.
The students answer tough questions
on scientific topics in astronomy, biology, chemistry, mathematics, physics,
earth and general science. Teams are comprised of five students and a
teacher who serves as an advisor and coach. Competition starts at 9 a.m. and in the afternoon the top eight
teams compete in a double elimination final round. A team from Mira
Loma High
School won the Sacramento
event last year.
The
winner of the regional competition will receive an all-expense paid trip to Washington, D.C.,April 29 through May 3 to compete in the
National Science Bowl. There they will participate in a two-day competition
against teams from all 50 states.
The National Science Bowl was developed to
encourage high school students from across the nation to excel in math and
science and to pursue careers in those fields. It provides the students,
and teachers who have prepared them, a forum to receive national recognition
for their talent and hard work. Detailed information about the Science Bowl can be found
