12th Annual Big Sky Regional Science Bowl Competition

Billings, Mont – This Saturday marks the 12th Annual Big Sky Regional Science Bowl Competition.  High school students from across Montana and Northern Wyoming square off January 31 at the Billings Hotel and Convention Center in pursuit of academic superiority.

Twenty-eight teams from nineteen schools will participate in the double elimination contest answering questions about astronomy, biology, chemistry, computer science, earth science, mathematics, and physics.  After a full day of heated competition the winning team will be awarded an all-expense paid trip to Washington D.C. April 29 though May 3 to represent the Big Sky Region in the U.S. Department of Energy’s National Science Bowl.

Ensuring the event runs smoothly is a team of nearly eighty volunteers from Billings and the surrounding communities.  They will serve as moderators, scientific judges, rules judges, timekeepers, scorekeepers, and other miscellaneous positions throughout the entire day.

Major sponsors for this year’s event include Western Area Power Administration, PPL Montana, Maxim Technologies, HKM Engineering, CRM Inc., Van’s Evergreen IGA, Upper Missouri G&T Electric, Yellowstone Valley Electric Co-Op, HDR-SSR Engineers, Rocky Mountain College, and Office Max.

Competition begins at 8 a.m.  For more information or to volunteer, contact Dirk Shulund at (406) 247-7402 or e-mail shulund@wapa.gov.
