The National Immunization Program presents three live satellite training courses each year.

The annual course schedule varies, but usually includes three of the following courses:

  1. Epidemiology & Prevention of Vaccine-Preventable Diseases
  2. Immunization Update
  3. Surveillance of Vaccine-Preventable Diseases
  4. The Immunization Encounter: Critical Issues
  5. Adult Immunization Update
  6. Vaccines for International Travel
  7. Influenza: Preparing for the Next Pandemic

These courses are presented in conjunction with the Public Health Training Network (PHTN).  Detailed information, including registration, course description and objectives, faculty, continuing education credit, and satellite technical specifications, will be posted by PHTN prior to each course, with a link from the course description (below).

Epidemiology & Prevention 
of Vaccine-Preventable Diseases

Description: A comprehensive overview of the principles of vaccination, general recommendations, immunization strategies for providers, and specific information about vaccine-preventable diseases and the vaccines that prevent them.
Audience: Immunization Providers (Physicians, Nurses, Nurse Practitioners, Pharmacists, Physician’s Assistants, DoD Paraprofessionals, Medical Students, etc.)
Length: 14 hours. Four, 4-hour sessions broadcast on consecutive Thursdays.

Description: An annual update, highlighting current and late-breaking immunization issues.
Audience: Immunization Providers (Physicians, Nurses, Nurse Practitioners, Pharmacists, Physician’s Assistants, DoD Paraprofessionals, Medical Students, etc.)

Surveillance of Vaccine-Preventable Diseases

Description: Provides guidelines for vaccine-preventable disease surveillance, case investigation, and outbreak control.
Audience: Physicians, infection control practitioners, nurses, epidemiologists, laboratorians, sanitarians, disease reporters, and others who are involved in surveillance and reporting of VPDs.
Length: 3 ½ hours

The Immunization Encounter: Critical Issues
Description: Addresses issues related to a routine immunization clinic encounter: patient intake and screening, vaccine administration, vaccine management, documentation, vaccine adverse events management and reporting, and resources for staff orientation and development.
Audience: Immunization clinic managers, staff supervisors, and staff who administer vaccines (Physicians, RNs and LPNs, Nurse Practitioners, Pharmacists, Physician's Assistants, Medical Assistants, DOD Paraprofessionals, Students)
