Soil Mechanic Lab Information

Flexible Wall Permeability Equipment

The National Design, Construction and  Soil Mechanics Center operates two Soil Mechanics Laboratories, located in Lincoln, Nebraska and Fort Worth, Texas.  The two labs combined have equipment for running 25 flexible wall permeability tests (ASTM D5084) at a time.  The tests are performed to develop design and construction parameters for  compacted soil liners  used in lowering the seepage rates from animal waste storage ponds and lagoons.  The laboratories performed permeability and other tests for the design of over 300 animal waste storage facilities in Fiscal Year 2002.  The photograph shown above is of several permeability test setups in the Lincoln Laboratory.
