The Fisheries Management Program provides technical assistance and policy guidance on the management of recreational fisheries and the fish and aquatic resources under NPS control. Fisheries program staff provide technical assistance to parks to evaluate threats to fish and aquatic resources, and to coordinate management and inventory projects. Restoration of native fish stocks and recovery of threatened and endangered fishes are among the highest priorities for the Program. Park fishing regulations are usually established in cooperation with adjacent states and often require the development of cooperative fishery management plans, and the Fisheries Management Program assists parks in developing these plans and restoring aquatic resources.

"Fishing is much more than fish. It is the great occasion when we may
return to the fine simplicity of our forefathers."
- Herbert Hoover
