Welcome to the Southern Weed Science Research Unit


The Southern Weed Science Research Unit is one of seven USDA-ARS research units in Stoneville, MS.  The unit currently has nine Scientists, two Support Scientists, one Postdoctoral Research Assistant and 13 Technical and Support Personnel on staff. 

Since its inception in 1970, the mission of the Southern Weed Science Research Unit has been to develop safe, sustainable, efficient, and economically sound approaches to weed management. 

Specific research programs include: Biological control of weeds utilizing specific plant pathogens; Development of integrated weed management for Mid-South cropping systems; Basic biology of vining weeds; Conservation and weed management practices for efficient herbicide use and sustainable soil resources.
