Figure D8-1. Historical Perspecitve of per Capita Ethanol Consumption in the United States Consumption of ethanol, in gallons, is provided for the period from 1850 to 2000. In 1850, per capita consumption (based on population age 15 and older) was 2.1 gallons. Consumption was not recorded during Prohibition and was at a low of 0.97 gallons in 1934.
