How to use this site:

This website is designed for supervisors and their new employees.  The new employee's first year is divided into five stages. The early stages focus on logistical and administrative actions, and subsequent stages emphasize IP culture and broad Forest Service topics. The five stages are:

You can also access this menu through a pulldown menu located on the top right of every page.

Each stage contains a checklist of action items and an accompanying set of detailed instructions. Supervisors and new employees should print out the relevant checklist for each stage and review it together. Before proceeding to the next stage, both the supervisor and the new employee should make sure they have accomplished each action item on the checklist.

The action items identify the person responsible for a particular task. Three designations are used: Supervisor, New Employee (both FS and METI employees),or IP Staff Member (someone other than the supervisor or New Employee).

The development of this New Employee Orientation is ongoing. Its quality and relevance is dependent upon feedback from everyone who uses it. You will notice that there is an opportunity for feedback at the end of each stage of the orientation. Please take the time to give your input.

If you are a supervisor, please start at the Pre-reporting stage. For new employees, go directly to Day One.

Things to keep in mind:

  • Each page of this website is dedicated to one stage of the orientation program. Additionally, a printable checklist is available for each stage.
  • These stages offer guidance to the supervisor and the new employee; although, certain stages do include specific requirements that must be completed.
  • A color-coding scheme is used to differentiate among the action items within each checklist.  The scheme is included in each stage.
  • This site is not solely for new employees; everyone may find useful resources here.
