Disaster Assistance Registration Deadline Extended To Sept. 9 for Those Affected by Colorado Wildfires

Denver, CO -- The deadline to register for disaster assistance has been extended to Sept. 9 for individuals and business owners in 59 Colorado counties and two Indian reservations who suffered losses due to wildfires.

"This additional time allows those in all declared areas, especially those affected by the recent Big Elk fire, the opportunity to register for assistance," said State Coordinating Officer Tommy Grier.

Federal Coordinating Officer Steve Emory of the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) added, "If any person in the declared areas needs assistance due to damages suffered between April 23 and Aug. 6 and hasn't yet registered, we encourage them to call FEMA to begin the recovery process."

Those affected by the wildfires may register for assistance by calling FEMA's toll-free number, 1-800-621-FEMA (3362). The number for individuals with speech or hearing impairments is TTY: 1-800-462-7585. These lines are open 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., weekdays.

To date, more than 2,500 Colorado households and businesses have registered for assistance. Statewide, more than $7.5 million in grants and low-interest loans have been made available for emergency rental assistance, home and business repair and replacement of personal property.

Areas included in the disaster declaration are Adams, Alamosa, Arapahoe, Archuleta, Baca, Bent, Boulder, Broomfield (city/county), Chaffee, Cheyenne, Clear Creek, Conejos, Costilla, Crowley, Custer, Delta, Denver (city/county), Dolores, Douglas, Eagle, Elbert, El Paso, Fremont, Garfield, Gilpin, Grand, Gunnison, Hinsdale, Huerfano, Jackson, Jefferson, Kiowa, Kit Carson, Lake, La Plata, Larimer, Las Animas, Lincoln, Mesa, Mineral, Moffat, Montezuma, Montrose, Otero, Ouray, Park, Pitkin, Pueblo, Rio Blanco, Rio Grande, Routt, Saguache, San Juan, San Miguel, Summit, Teller, Washington, Weld and Yuma counties, and the Southern Ute and Ute Mountain Ute reservations.
