Training and Employment

Post-Doctoral

The laboratory has several basic science training programs which focus on the structure and function of myosins in vitro and in cells. These positions are of several categories: Individual Research Training Awards (IRTA), Staff Fellow, Visiting Fellowships, Visiting Associates and National Research Council Fellowships. All of these fellowships are initial two year appointments with potential extensions for an additional 3 years. All fellows receive a broad exposure to molecular biology, cell biology and biochemistry and biophysics. Individual projects are tailored to the fellow’s interests. Active collaborations with several labs both within the intramural NIH program as well with other labs around the world help foster an intergrative approach to our studies. Fellows are expected to fully participate in the lab research meetings and journal club. Inquires about the training program should be directed to Dr. Jim Sellers

Pre-Doctoral

Pre-IRTA awards are available which provide funding for graduate students to conduct part of their graduate research programs at the NIH. These awards are for those who have completed course work and can do research full time. We have used this mechanism to support the research efforts of several graduate students in the past. A list of doctoral dissertations and affiliated Universities are presented below

Post-Bacculariate IRTA Program

These awards are for recently graduated college students who wish to work at NIH for one to two years before pursuing a Ph.D. or M.D. degree. For further information please visit Office of Education Web Site.
